WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT MIZUNO

Founded in Osaka, Japan, Mizuno started in 1906 as a sports business that sold hand-stitched baseballs and gloves. But in 1913, the founders decided not to sell sporting goods anymore and began to manufacture them instead. It was 20 years later that Mizuno moved into the world of golf club manufacturing. 

Today, Mizuno operates as a chain of retail stores across Japan. There is a reason why it has been dominating the golf, especially the iron game, for years. It has an unparalleled reputation due to their process of making their clubs. Mizuno irons won a record-setting six gold medals in 2015,

AT A GLANCE: WHAT MIZUNO HAS TO OFFER

Mizuno has created some of the most adjustable and customizable drivers on the market. With a strong Tour presence, Mizuno drivers, irons, and even balls are some of the best around. 

• ST180 Driver

Mizuno equipped the ST180 driver with Wave Sole technology to increase the energy passed on to the ball for elevated ball speeds and reduced spin rate. It is a low spinning driver that requires high speed or high spin swing to cope with it. So, if you are a golfer who needs extra forgiveness, a little help with a slice, and mid to low spin, Mizuno has built what you need. 

• JPX 919 Series

According to Chris Voshall, the Mizuno JPX 919 series has a modern touch and dynamic technology. The company faced a challenge in developing this range since it will replace the multiple major championship-winning JPX 900 series. But they did an excellent job producing three JPX 919 models – Tour, Forged, and Hot Metal, which produce distinct ball flights and use different base materials that can enhance the performance of any golfer. 

• MP-20 Irons

The Mizuno MP-20 irons continue the tradition of excellence with three models: the MP-20 (Traditional Muscle Back Blade), MP-20 MMC (Multi-Material Concept), and MP-20 HMB (Hot Metal Blade). They did a fantastic job of assembling this iron lineup and keeping lofts consistent throughout each set. If you want to mix things up, you can blend the set of MP-20s that will fit your game. For instance, the MMC will work perfectly with 5-7 iron sets without sacrificing the look of the blade. Meanwhile, if you are looking for more forgiveness and higher launch, the HMB should be in your bag. 

• RB Tour and RB Tour X 

Aside from golf clubs and forged irons, Mizuno has created a ball as good as any other Tour-level golf ball in the market. For the RB Tour and RB Tour X, Mizuno designed the ball with a unique dimple geometry (Cone Dimple or C-Dimple) to reduce drag while maintaining the required amount of lift. They are virtually identical balls – C-Dimple, 4-piece construction, urethane cover, and dual-core, but their compression differs. Note that these golf balls won’t be in the long drive contest, but if you want a ball that can tick off the boxes — pure feel, lower ball flight trajectory, and more spin, —  the RB Tour and RB Tour X are a breath of fresh air. 

• ST 190 Drivers

Shifting away from the blue design of the GT180 model, Mizuno designed the ST190 drivers with a touch of a classic look. Both the ST190 and ST190G manage to be subtle yet cutting edge, with spin reduced enough to maximize carry distance. If you are looking for more adjustability to hit specific spots, the ST190G is for you. But if you want a faster ball speed with a lot of forgiveness, grab the ST190.
